Date & Location

The 2010 Crape Myrtle Tennis Classic will be held on October 15-17, 2010 in Raleigh, NC. Millbrook Exchange Park (MEP) will be the site for the tournament. Millbrook Exchange Park has 23 hard courts with lights. This site is subject to change before the tournament begins to play.

Events & Divisions

Players may choose to split their Singles and Doubles division based on their current GLTA rankings. Divisions chosen must be at or above a player’s current rank in each respective event. The CMTC committee will review each player’s ranking to ensure they are playing in the appropriate division. The committee has the right to reclassify a player to a higher division in accordance with the GLTA Rules and Regulations.

GLTA Division Guidelines

Open Player - NTRP 5.0 and above
A Player - NTRP 4.5
B Player - NTRP 3.5-4.0
C Player - NTRP 3.0
D Player - NTRP 2.0-2.5

A minimum of 4 entries will be required for a draw to be held in any given division. Draw sizes of 4 or 5 will be in a round-robin format, with the champion and runner-up determined by total matches won. A draw size of 6 will result in 2 round-robin groups, with a championship final between the winner of each group. Draw sizes of 7 or more will be based on standard single-elimination brackets.

Schedule

Match play will begin at 8am on Friday October 15th, 2010. All finals will be played on Sunday October 17, 2010 at Millbrook Exchange Park. Please make travel plans accordingly, as final matches will not complete until late in the afternoon.

Waiting List/Refunds

For each event, a waiting list will be maintained if more entries are received than can be accommodated. As players withdraw, players on the waiting list will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The draws will be made one week prior to the start of the tournament. No refunds will be given after the draws are made. If an event is canceled due to lack of entrants, players will be given the option of playing up one division higher, or being refunded their money for that event.

Match Format

Main Draw Singles: All main draw singles matches will be best of 3 sets, with regular scoring.
Main Draw Doubles: All doubles matches will consist of 2 sets, with regular scoring. If players split sets, a 10-point super tie-break (first to 10 points, win by 2) will be used in lieu of the 3rd set. This format will also be applicable in the doubles finals.

New for 2010!  Consolation Play (Singles & Doubles): We are pleased to be able offer consolation play in both singles and doubles to those players who lose their first round match. Consolation matches will be an 8-game pro set, with no ad scoring and a 12-point tie breaker at 7 games all. Consolation finals matches will be the same as described above in the Main Draw format.  Consolation play will not be offered in any divisions which use the round-robin draw format.

Due to the large number of matches that Consolation Play adds to the court usage, the CMTC Committee reserves the right to modify or cancel Consolation Play in the event of inclement weather. If such a situation would occur, Consolation Doubles would be canceled first, then Consolation Singles if deemed necessary.  We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Please note that in an effort to conserve paper and unnecessary printing, complete draw sheets will not be included in each player’s tournament bag.  Draws and match times will instead be available from a number of different means, including:

  • The tournamentsoftware.com link above
  • Emails sent to your email address
  • Information sheets at the Draw Party
  • Visual displays at/near the Tournament Information Desk

Please plan to use one or more of the methods above to confirm your draws and match times.

Seeding

Seeding will be based primarily on the GLTA ranking points system.  Special seeding considerations may be given as a result of recent tournament results. The tournament committee will make the final decision regarding such matters.

Rules

The tournament will be played according to USTA rules, unless superseded by GLTA rules. This includes USTA’s 15 minute default time.  Please check-in at the tournament desk 15 minutes prior to your scheduled match time.  Warm-up time will be limited to 5 minutes.  Please be considerate of other players and help keep the tournament on schedule by strictly enforcing this warm-up time limit.

Tournament Beneficiary

The Triangle Tennis Club is excited to welcome back the GLBT-CommUnity Alliance (GLBT-CA) at North Carolina State University as our tournament beneficiary.   Founded in 1988, The CommUnity Alliance is the primary voice for GLBT students at North Carolina's largest university. Their mission is to cultivate a campus environment that provides a safe and positive college experience for all students regardless of perceived or realized sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. GLBT-CA works closely with the GLBT Center at NC State to promote an inclusive and welcoming environment on campus and in the local community.

Volunteers from the CommUnity Alliance will be staffing various positions throughout the CMTC tournament.  We thank them for their support in helping make the CMTC run as smooth as possible!
